So far there have been rumours that include an underwear line and a pie and mash chain with Gordon Ramsay and some media specialists suspect it was Willis who recommended Beckham pose for the cover of this month's left-field men's style bible Fantastic Man, instead of the more predictable GQ or Esquire. But as to what Willis is actually doing with Beckham, 'Simon would string me up if I gave you too much information.' He turns on a Beckhamian smile, the laugh lines crinkling round his grey-blue eyes, and clasps his hands. He had, he says, known David 'a little' before Beckham's manager Simon Fuller approached him to 'look at a branding identity for David' and 'David's a very sharp guy he's got a very strong understanding of what's right for him'. And his light tan - well, that he got from spending the last two weeks in LA with David Beckham, a new client of his consultancy firm Announcement. His grey made-to-measure three-piece suit hangs immaculately on his rangy form, a touch of raffish detail evident in the yellow stitching round the one unbuttoned hole at the cuff his smattering of beard is neat, but not too neat his hair (cut by Stella who, though 'she sometimes hacks in there and goes too far, generally does a decent job') is ideally tousled. Perfect, eh? There is indeed something almost too good to be true about Alasdhair Willis.
